We recently visited the Ennis Railroad
& Cultural Heritage Museum located alongside the tracks in Ennis,
Texas. This is a very interesting little museum with an exceptional
collection of railroad and cultural memorabilia. The museum features
a large collection of items related to the Houston and Central Texas
Railroad which ran through the town.
There is a large diorama of the old
engine roundhouse that once existed just north of the museums
location. The museum also has a large collection of rare china, and
a large display of vintage locomotive models hand-crafted by the
original collector.
On the day we were there, the docent
was in full railroad conductor uniform complete with his working
railroad pocket watch. His narrative brought such a personal touch
to our day at the museum.
The highlight of our day was the MKT
caboose on static display just outside the museum. We were able to
go inside the caboose and explore this fine example of how a caboose
looked while in service on the railroad.

wonderful little museum, visit the City of Ennis Convention and
